Where is more appropriate to put a cremation urn in the house? on the fairy side or the altar?

my parents urn Cremation has sat on her bedside table for 2 years, (the main reason was to give comfort to my stepmother), are now wondering whether it is better placed in the altar place from my stepmother is not using the room more? (planning for the transfer of the urn in the church columbarium, but not yet complete). I in Argentina, but my father was pure German, whether culture matters.
