Can an animal's ashes be cremated in the same coffin as their owner?

My mum's dog died last week and she want to know if when she dies will we be allowed to put her dogs ashes in the coffin before my mother is cremated?

I'm 99% that would be allowable -- it's an unusual request, not an unreasonable one. You can call a funeral home and ask to see if there's any ordinances against it, and whether they would do it.
